Croatia Tops the List of Safest Destinations for Walking at Night
11/13/2025

Croatia has confirmed its status as a safe destination, but this time not only for tourists.
According to an analysis by the Adventourely portal, our citizens feel the safest in all of Europe, placing Our Beautiful Homeland at the very top of the perceived safety ranking. These results are based on subjective feeling, which actually says more about quality of life, trust, and order than merely dry counting of offenses.
The 2025 list, published by the statistical portals Adventourely and World of Statistics, brings exceptionally praiseworthy news for Croatia. According to this analysis, Croatia is ranked as the safest country in Europe when it comes to perceived safety of walking alone at night. In other words, according to the conducted surveys, Croatian citizens feel the most relaxed and safest when moving alone through the streets after sunset.
What does perceived safety actually mean?
It is crucial to understand that this is not about official police statistics or the number of recorded criminal offenses, but exclusively about the subjective feeling of residents. Researchers asked citizens how safe they feel in their surroundings, and it is precisely this safety index, measured from 0 to 100, that testifies to trust in institutions, police visibility, the quality of street lighting, and general social cohesion. It is actually a very strong indicator of quality of life, because a low level of fear and a high level of trust directly affect the everyday lives of all of us.
Such a result is extremely significant, not only as a reason for pride, but also as an extraordinary promotional asset. The high level of safety felt by local people is automatically transferred to tourists as well, further strengthening Croatia's position as a safe and desirable destination.
It is interesting to look at the full ranking, where, alongside Iceland and Switzerland, countries from our immediate surroundings also ranked highly. Right behind Croatia, in second place, was Slovenia, while Iceland was in third place.
