Experts Warn of a Serious German Problem: “No One Works as Little as Germans”

Why is productivity declining? This is the question troubling the German economy. As German media write, there is a shortage of staff in almost all sectors, so overtime is therefore not the exception, but the rule.

Complaints in the style of “no one works as little as Germans” may seem paradoxical in this context, German media write.

Studies show that productivity in the German economy is actually decreasing, reports Fenix magazin.

Experts claim that the “golden times are over”. They point out that the German economy is burdened, in addition to high raw material and energy costs, by a shortage of labor in almost all areas.

The labor shortage is evident in gastronomy, public transport, skilled trades, but also in the IT sector, medicine, and education.

Given the chronic labor shortage, many companies are trying in every way to attract workers. Some are turning to workers from abroad, others are trying to train their own staff themselves and ultimately retain them.

Others are trying to turn to a more modern approach by introducing a four-day workweek. The first companies that introduced this kind of working time with full pay are satisfied with the current way of working and the business results achieved so far.
