Germany Needs 250,000 Workers: Jobs Facing Critical Shortages
07/06/2022

Germany is currently struggling with a shortage of skilled labor, which threatens it with economic collapse. Namely, German craft trades are lacking as many as 250,000 workers
According to data from the Association of German Craftsmen (ZDH), there are currently 150,000 job vacancies in employment agencies. However, given that some companies do not seek workers through employment agencies, the Association estimates that the real figure is around 250,000 and that even greater growth is expected, writes Spiegel.
The Institute for Economic Research in Cologne recently found that there is a shortage of skilled workers, especially in construction. Because of this, plumbers as well as heating and air-conditioning installers are urgently needed. Likewise, there are too few construction electricians.
If we do not take the right measures in time, there is a risk not only of the failure of the energy transition, but also of a major economic downturn and loss of prosperity,’ said Franz Xaver Peteranderl, president of Bavarian craftsmen, reports Tportal
The shortage of skilled workers will be one of the dominant topics of the upcoming International Trade Fair in Munich, which is opening for the first time since 2019.
