In 5 Years, Every Fourth Employee in Croatia Could Be a Foreigner

As for the foreign workforce, on the one hand we are facing unfavorable demographic trends, and on the other hand we are facing emigration.

Hrvoje Stojić, chief economist of the Croatian Employers' Association, said that Croatia's problem is not the number of unemployed people, because even if we employed them overnight, our employment rate would still be among the lower ones in the EU.

“If Croatia wants to grow, it must have greater participation in the labor market and the employment rate must be higher. We must employ people in activities with higher added value, such as the IT industry and everything we have as a competitive advantage,” he emphasized.

He adds that in Croatia we have made employment more flexible and that this should be supported, writes HRT.

As for the foreign workforce, on the one hand we are facing unfavorable demographic trends, and on the other hand we are facing emigration.

“In the next 5 years, the number of foreigners could reach half a million, and over a longer period, the number of foreigners could tend to grow,” said Stojić.

He added that in 5 or more years, every fourth employee could be a foreigner.
