The average gross salary in Germany in 2021 amounted to 51,009 euros

In the largest analysis of salary data in Germany to date, the comparison portal gehalt.de and the labor market platform StepStone published a report on which professions promise the best pay, reports Fenix magazin.

Best-paying professions in 2021

Accordingly, the average gross salary in Germany in 2021 amounted to 51,009 euros, while the median was 44,074 euros. The median describes the value that lies exactly in the middle of all values. This means that there is an equal number of lower and higher salaries than the median salary.

The median therefore offers particularly significant information about the salary structure in Germany, since the average value is sometimes strongly influenced by particularly high or low values.

It is not surprising that, when it comes to the highest-paid professions, the prestigious medical profession is far in first place. The coronavirus crisis has once again shown how important a role doctors play. Otherwise, people who work in healthcare usually earn less than in other sectors. In addition to sales managers and management consultants, engineers and IT specialists also receive above-average salaries.

The three best-paid jobs in 2021

Doctors: 78,317 euros

Sales manager: 62,379 euros

Management consultant: 62,119 euros

Salary increases with managerial responsibility

However, there is much more to it with some job titles: anyone who “climbs” the corporate hierarchy and has a lot of personnel responsibility is paid accordingly well. Employees with managerial responsibility earn an average gross salary of 86,300 euros, almost twice as much as employees without personnel responsibility.

Only about five percent of Germans earn a six-figure salary. According to the salary portal's assessment, specialists and executives lead the ranking. Surprisingly, HR managers are at the top of the list. But many companies now need qualified employees. Anyone who knows how to retain quality people is in demand.

Chief financial officer: 143,500 euros

Sales director: 125,300 euros

Board member: 124,800 euros

Company manager: 104,000 euros
