Minimum Student Hourly Wage Rises to €7.06

The minimum student hourly wage from the beginning of 2027 will amount to 7.06 euros. That is 50 cents more than the current 6.56 euros per hour.

As reported by N1, the increase was announced at the Government session by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković: 'It goes to 7.06 euros in 2027, that is the minimum student hourly wage.'

How much does the same number of hours worked bring?

For a student who works 100 hours at the minimum hourly wage, the calculated compensation will increase from 656 to 706 euros, that is, by 50 euros. For 160 hours of work, it will amount to 1,129.60 euros, which is 80 euros more than under the current hourly wage. The examples refer to regular hours, without supplements for work on Sundays, at night, or on holidays.

Why is the student hourly wage increasing?

The legal minimum for student work is calculated by dividing the minimum monthly gross salary by 160. Since it will amount to 1,130 euros for 2027, the new minimum student hourly wage after rounding is 7.06 euros. The minister responsible for higher education determines that amount by a special decision after the adoption of the Government regulation.

At least 10.59 euros for Sunday work

Students are entitled to 50% higher compensation for work on Sundays, holidays, at night, and overtime. With the new minimum hourly wage, that means at least 10.59 euros for such an hour of work. That right already exists, and with the increase of the base hourly wage, the amount that belongs to the student for work under those conditions also rises.

The increase will be felt most directly by students who are now working for the legal minimum. An hourly wage of 7.06 euros is the lowest permitted compensation, and employers may offer more. For students who already have a higher contracted hourly wage, the change in the minimum does not in itself bring an automatic raise.
