Persistence: He Sent 700 Job Applications in Germany
01/23/2025

A dramatic appeal was made by an Indian man in Germany who does not want to receive the so-called Bürgergeld social benefit.
Indian man Amit Mundra (46) has been living in Germany since 2017. He is highly qualified and well integrated. However, after losing his job, the 46-year-old was unable to find a new one – despite intensive efforts. Mundra has now made an emotional appeal to the public.
Amit Mundra came from India in 2017 and had a well-paid job. He has been unemployed for several months. After 700 rejected applications, he is threatened with “falling” into the social program. It would be a serious blow for the 46-year-old. “If I receive social benefits from the state, my naturalization application no longer stands a chance,” Mundra explains to FOKUS online.
Mundra about his family: “We are deeply integrated into German society”
“For my family and me, naturalization represents the future in the country we call home,” he says and continues: “I have been living in Germany for almost eight years. My family, my wife and three children, followed my example and came to join me more than five years ago. We are deeply integrated into German society.”
He has already completed two master's degrees in international management in Germany and is now aiming for a third. His wife works at a German company. The children, aged 11, 14 and 18, attend German schools, a grammar school and a vocational school. “They feel closer to Germany than to India, the country where they were born. My youngest son speaks more German than Hindi.”
“We are law-abiding citizens, we speak German fluently and we respect the German system.”
Amit Mundra emphasizes: “We are law-abiding citizens, we speak German fluently and we respect the German system.” He makes it clear that he is not telling his story “to provoke pity.” Instead, he wants “to point out the urgent need for systemic change.” Because, he believes, “many people in Germany are in a situation like his”.
