Amazon Could Lay Off 30,000 Workers in Biggest Job Cuts Since 2022

American tech giant Amazon is preparing another major reduction in the number of employees in its offices, and according to German media reports, up to 30,000 people could lose their jobs.

This is almost ten percent of the total 350,000 administrative workers, which would make this the biggest cut since the end of 2022, when around 27,000 jobs were eliminated, writes Fenix Magazin. The company has so far not officially commented on the plans that have already been causing concern within the corporation for weeks.

According to available information, the reduction will cover several business areas, including human resources, advertising, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), the key division that generates the largest share of profits. Although the exact figures and timeline are not yet known, insiders claim that this is a continuation of a broader cost-saving strategy through which Amazon is trying to reduce operating costs and redirect funds into the development of artificial intelligence.

Experts warn that such a move could have broader consequences for the technology sector, which is still trying to stabilize after the wave of layoffs in 2022 and 2023. Many large companies, such as Google, Meta, and Microsoft, have reduced their workforce over the past two years in order to align costs with slower market growth. Amazon's move thus fits into the broader trend of workforce optimization among tech giants.

The labor market in the technology sector is currently showing signs of recovery, but caution remains pronounced. Demand for experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity remains high, while administrative and marketing positions are under greater pressure.
