Austria to See Major Price Hikes for Many Services and Products from July 1, 2025

From July 1, 2025, citizens of Austria can expect a significant increase in the prices of numerous services and products. According to Austrian media, various government fees, driver's licenses, cigarettes, and public transport tickets are becoming more expensive.

Higher prices for documents and services

Federal fees, which have not been changed for more than a decade, are increasing by around 44 percent. Thus, a new passport will cost around 109 euros instead of the previous 75.90 euros. Driver's licenses are also becoming more expensive, with the standard license rising from 60.50 to around 87 euros, and the Scheckkartenführerschein from 49.50 to 71 euros, writes Fenix Magazin. Fees for identity cards, e-cards, vehicle registration, and citizenship are also increasing, while getting married will cost 74 euros instead of the previous 50.

Tobacco and transport also more expensive

Cigarette prices are rising due to higher taxes, with leading manufacturers announcing an increase of ten cents per pack. From July, passengers on public transport, especially in Lower Austria and Burgenland, will also pay more – tickets are increasing by an average of three percent. The climate ticket will cost 1,300 euros from August, instead of the previous 1,095 euros.

These price increases are the result of rising costs and inflation, and citizens are urged to do so as soon as possible if they plan to obtain new documents.
