Ćevapi Price Hike in Sarajevo: A Beloved Specialty Becomes a Luxury

Residents of Sarajevo, as well as numerous tourists who gladly visit the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have been unpleasantly surprised these days by the new prices of the most famous local specialty, ćevapi.

Famous Sarajevo ćevabdžinicas in Baščaršija, which for years have been an unavoidable destination for all lovers of good food, now offer ćevapi at significantly higher prices than before, reports Dnevni avaz.

How much do ćevapi cost now?

According to the latest information, the price of a portion of ten ćevapi, the popular “ten-piece”, now amounts to 14 convertible marks, which is approximately 7.16 euros. For those who prefer a smaller portion, the “five-piece” now costs 7 KM, or about 3.58 euros. This is a significant increase compared to previous prices, where the “ten-piece” cost 12 KM (about 6.13 euros), and the “five-piece” 6 KM (about 3.07 euros).

Add-ons are charged separately

It is important to note that all add-ons with ćevapi, such as kajmak or yogurt, are charged separately. This means that the total amount of the bill for the meal will be even higher if you want to complete your gastronomic experience. Many citizens point out that a ćevapi lunch, which was once affordable and everyday, is now slowly moving into the category of luxury.

What is behind the price increase?

It is generally known that the cost of living and food prices in Bosnia and Herzegovina are constantly rising. This situation is no exception for restaurateurs either, who are forced to adjust prices in order to maintain their business.

Ćevapi are more than an ordinary meal; they are part of the tradition, culture, and everyday life of Sarajevo. However, with the new prices, they are becoming less accessible to the wider population, which has caused dissatisfaction and concern among lovers of this specialty. It remains to be seen whether this price increase will affect the number of guests in the famous ćevabdžinicas, but one thing is certain: ćevapi in Sarajevo are now more expensive than ever before.
