China Becomes the World’s Largest Car Exporter
02/02/2024

BEIJING – China is well on its way to becoming the world's largest car exporter for the first time, thanks to large vehicle exports to Russia and Mexico, as well as increasing use of electric vehicles (EV).
From January to November, China exported 4.41 million cars, which was 58 percent more than in the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
This puts China ahead of the recent export leader Japan, which despite an increase of 15 percent exported 3.99 million vehicles in the first 11 months of this year, Nikkei Asia reports
It is expected to be concluded that in December Japan exported 4.3 million vehicles.
Before that, Japan fell from first place in 2016, and Germany was then the leader in car exports.
With this result, strong sales of Chinese vehicles in Russia and Mexico, as well as in Europe, contributed to China's performance. In the period from January to October, China exported 730,000 cars to Russia, which is seven times more than in the same period in 2022.
After Russia, Mexicans bought the most Chinese vehicles, where 330,000 cars were sold, which is a jump of 71 percent compared to last year.
