Employee Sues Company for “Damaging His Brain with Alcohol at Team-Building Event”

THE BRITISH company PWC is being sued by an employee over an injury he suffered at an event organized by the company. Put simply, at a team building event.

The Financial Times writes that employee Michael Brockie claims he was injured during “pub golf” organized by the company for its employees. It was a local pub “outing” designed like a game of golf, but instead of going around holes on a course, the employees went around – pubs.

Employees were allegedly encouraged to drink alcoholic beverages in each pub as quickly as possible in order to win the game. Brockie claims that the event “encouraged excessive alcohol consumption” and that this resulted in him “suffering brain damage because he was so intoxicated that he could not remember what happened after 10 p.m.”.

He is seeking £200,000 in damages

The 28-year-old claims he had to take six months off work to recover. He is now seeking £200,000 (around 1.7 million kuna) in damages from the company and accuses it of negligence toward workers.

“As a responsible employer, we are committed to providing a safe, healthy and inclusive culture for all our employees. We also expect everyone attending social events to act responsibly and to take care of their own safety and the safety of others,” the company stated. Court proceedings are ongoing.
