Employment Rises in Croatia: Tourism and Hospitality Lead the Way

The number of employees in Croatia at the end of May 2025 reached 1.73 million, which is 1.7 percent more than a month earlier and one percent more than in May last year.
The registered unemployment rate stands at 4.1 percent, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than in April, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
The largest growth in employment was recorded in accommodation provision and food preparation and serving services, that is, in tourism and hospitality. In that sector, employment increased by as much as 13.6 percent on a monthly basis, and at the end of May there were 95,574 employees, writes index.hr.
In crafts and freelance professions, 224,149 people were employed, which is 3.7 percent more than in April, while the number of insured farmers increased by 4.6 percent. On the other hand, a decline in the number of employees was recorded in manufacturing (by 2.9 percent) and in agriculture, forestry and fishing (by 3 percent).
Decline in unemployment
The number of unemployed at the end of May amounted to 73,231, which is 10.1 percent less than in April and as much as 17.1 percent less than a year earlier. This trend is accompanied by a drop in the registered unemployment rate to 4.1 percent, which is a positive signal for the labor market in Croatia and the region.
