Germany’s Minimum Wage to Rise in Two Steps: Up €1.78 Per Hour by 2027

Germany will significantly increase the minimum hourly wage over the next two years.

According to the decision of the Minimum Wage Commission, from January 1, 2025, the minimum wage will rise to 13.90 euros per hour, and from 2027 it will amount to 14.60 euros. The current minimum hourly wage is 12.82 euros.

This decision is the result of a compromise between unions and employers, and the chairwoman of the commission, Christiane Schönefeld, pointed out that a balance was achieved between the interests of workers and companies. Although the unions demanded an even larger increase (15 euros per hour), the negotiations were demanding, and the agreed amount is considered sustainable, writes Fenix Magazin.

Let us recall, the minimum wage in Germany was introduced in 2015, and since then its level has been adjusted every two years. The goal of the increase is to reduce the risk of poverty, which currently threatens 15.5% of the population.
