Major European City Makes Decision: Diesel and Petrol Cars Banned from Main Shopping Streets in the City Centre
10/16/2023

The area without petrol and diesel vehicles could be expanded in the second phase. The city council will vote on it in the first half of 2025
The Swedish capital Stockholm is introducing a ban zone for vehicles with petrol and diesel engines. With this move, the city council wants to ensure fresh air and less noise in the city centre. From 31 December, only electric cars will be allowed in part of central Stockholm.
For this purpose, the so-called zone 3 will be introduced in the area between four streets in the city centre. In this zone, only electric cars and delivery vehicles with hybrid engines (or electric) are allowed. Exceptions are for, for example, care staff, security services, police and emergency services, writes Revija HAK.
In Stockholm, the strictest zone will include the main shopping streets and places with the most expensive real estate in the city. Transport companies are not happy about it. This is the first time that this zone has been introduced in Sweden, and it is also one of the few in the world. The area may be expanded in the second phase. The city council will vote on it in the first half of 2025.
