Norwegian Retirees Get 11,000 Kuna Pensions, Ours Just 3,000: How People Live in a Retiree Paradise

There, seniors do not wake up with existential worries like here, but plan summer vacations, winter holidays, and dinners in restaurants.

The average Croatian pension of 2868 kuna sounds sadly low in euros, pensioners will receive 380 euros after the New Year. And even sadder than that is the comparison with other countries, the average pension is 12,000 kuna in Switzerland, 11,300 kuna in Norway. And those two countries are the jackpot for pensioners, at least according to the Global Retirement Index. There, seniors do not wake up with existential worries like here, but plan summer vacations, winter holidays, and dinners in restaurants, reports RTL.

“In Switzerland, generally everyone can live off their pension, with a relatively good standard of living. Otherwise, when it comes to pensioners here in Switzerland, they are able to take holidays normally like everyone else,” said Tomislav Babić from Stein am Rhein in Switzerland.

“They live a comfortable life, these are people who have time for travel, for various health needs, pensioners live a calmer life, not in luxury, but I see that they devote quite a lot of time to socializing with friends, coffees, cakes, going to Spain where they have properties,” said Marina Pohla from Oslo.

What is it actually about? A new ranking of countries where being old is not a hardship has been released. Everything was measured, from the quality of healthcare, the amount of the pension, the level of happiness, air cleanliness, whether there is a tax on income in old age.

The best place to be old is Norway, second is Switzerland, then Iceland, Ireland, Australia, in 22nd place is Slovenia – ahead of Japan. Otherwise, the average pension in Norway is 11,300 kuna, in Switzerland 12,000, in Slovenia 5000 - Croatia was not included in this research – here the average is 3000.
