Plenković Boasts: 'No More Hungry Children in Primary Schools Thanks to Us'

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Minister of Education Radovan Fuchs presented new contracts worth 193 million euros for the construction and equipping of primary schools, and the funds come from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

As the Prime Minister pointed out, never before has Croatia had so much funding available for investment in education, writes index.hr. He added that the Government is investing 2.7 billion euros in kindergartens, schools, higher education, and sports halls with the aim of modernizing the education system.

Plenković recalled the decision on free textbooks, transport, and school meals and emphasized that thanks to these measures, “there are no more hungry children in primary schools.”

He also directed special attention to improving teachers’ rights and support for children with developmental difficulties. As part of the major investment cycle, the renovation and construction of more than a thousand school facilities and almost nine hundred kindergartens is planned, which will create modern conditions for students, parents, and teachers.

Minister Fuchs stated that 129 contracts worth 711 million euros have been awarded so far, and by the end more than 85 percent of the funds planned for the projects will have been used. Their implementation will ensure that students attend school in a single shift, which will reduce the burden, improve the quality of teaching, and make organizing family life easier.
