She Returned from Germany to Croatia and Will Earn Less: 'My Family Is Here, and My Child Has Thrived'
10/30/2026

After almost 7 years of living and working in Germany, a returnee to Croatia found an administrative job for which she says the salary is 1,800 euros net, with transportation covered.
She starts work on November 2, and the working hours will be Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. She shared the news on TikTok, on the profile @rinacandles1, where she had previously spoken about the difficulties of finding a job after returning.
Lower salary, but no rent
She says she will earn less than in Germany, but in Croatia she has her own fully paid-off apartment, so she has no rent or mortgage expenses. The proximity of family is also important to her, which she cites as one of the reasons for returning. 'At home, you are with family,' she emphasized, explaining why her comparison of life in the 2 countries does not depend only on the amount of salary.
The job search brought disappointments
In earlier posts, she did not hide her concern about the job search. According to her, she sent numerous applications, went to interviews, and often received no response from employers. She also described a job interview in retail where she was offered 1,300 euros gross plus bonuses, with work 6 days a week and a day off during the week. She is now returning to administration, which, she says, she did for most of her working life.
The child adapted well
She is especially pleased with how her child has embraced life in Croatia. 'My child has blossomed since being in Croatia, and likes school,' she said in the latest post. She also mentioned e-Dnevnik, through which she can monitor school obligations and exam dates. Earlier, she explained that as a single mother she made the decision to return while also thinking about her child's future and about her parents, who are older and live alone.
The new job has yet to begin, but after earlier posts about uncertainty, she now has a concrete start date and agreed conditions. She accepts lower earnings than in Germany in exchange for living in her own apartment and being close to family, and her child's satisfaction further confirms her reasons for returning. 'Keep your fingers crossed for me,' she told her followers.
