Average Net Salary in Croatia Reached €1,494 in December 2025

The latest data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics on paid wages for December 2025 provide a clear picture of the economic situation of employees in the Republic of Croatia at the very end of the year.

While the figures at first glance suggest a slight decline compared to November, a more detailed analysis reveals stable annual income growth that significantly exceeds the inflation rate, ensuring citizens a higher real standard of living.

The difference between the average and the reality in the wallet

The average monthly paid net salary per employee in legal entities for December 2025 amounted to 1,494 euros. Compared to November of the same year, when the average was 1,498 euros, a nominal decline of 0.3% was recorded.

However, what might surprise the average reader is the fact that, despite that nominal decrease, salary in real terms actually increased by 0.1%. This practically means that employees could buy slightly more goods and services with their money in December than a month earlier, despite the smaller amount in their account.

When we look at the broader picture and compare December 2025 with the same month of the previous year, when the average was 1,361 euros, strong momentum is visible. Net salaries increased nominally by 9.8% over the year, while real growth amounted to 6.3%, indicating that incomes grew faster than the cost of living.

Median salary as a more realistic indicator of living standards

It is often discussed in public how the average salary does not faithfully reflect the lives of most citizens because the high salaries of a minority raise the overall average. That is precisely why the median salary figure is key to understanding the distribution of wealth. The median net salary for December 2025 amounted to 1,280 euros. This means that exactly half of employees in Croatia earn less than that amount, while the other half earn more.

It is interesting to note that the median salary in December recorded a slight increase compared to November, when it amounted to 1,278 euros, while the average salary simultaneously fell slightly. This suggests that in the last month of the year there was a slight improvement in income among employees with lower and middle incomes, which is common during periods of holiday payments and bonuses.

Large gap between industrial sectors

The Croatian labor market is still characterized by extreme differences in income depending on the activity. At the very top of the ranking is the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, where the lucky employees in that sector received an average net salary of 2,835 euros in December. On the other hand, workers in the manufacture of clothing continue to face the lowest incomes in the country, with an average of only 942 euros net.

This gap becomes even more visible when gross amounts are observed. While the highest average monthly gross salary in the oil industry reached 4,321 euros, in the textile sector it amounted to a modest 1,238 euros. Such differences clearly indicate the high profitability of the energy sector compared to labor-intensive branches of light industry that struggle with global competition.

The holiday month brought more working hours and bonuses

December is traditionally a month of intensive work, which is confirmed by the figure of 181 paid hours, which is as much as 14.6% more than in November. The most work was done in water transport, while the lowest number of hours was recorded by employees in social care without accommodation.

In addition to regular salaries, December also brought significant payments of non-taxable receipts, which include Christmas bonuses and occasional rewards. The average non-taxable receipt by number of recipients amounted to 562 euros. The most generous in these payments were employers in the sector of professional, scientific and technical activities with an average of 885 euros, while the most modest bonuses were received by employees in public administration and defense, averaging only 391 euros.

Looking at the whole of 2025, the average net salary amounted to 1,449 euros, confirming a stable growth trend of almost 10% on an annual basis. Although inflation is no longer in focus as in earlier years, real salary growth of 6% suggests that Croatian workers in 2025 nevertheless managed to significantly improve their purchasing power.

Still, the fact remains that the median salary of 1,280 euros still significantly lags behind the average, which means that a large part of the population still lives on incomes that are below the national standard suggested by the average of 1,494 euros. Entering 2026 with figures like these leaves room for cautious optimism, but deep differences between the highest-paid and lowest-paid occupations remain a challenge for the social cohesion of society.
