Croatia Records 110 Million Overnight Stays in 2025, HTZ Announces
01/07/2026

Croatian tourism concluded another historic year with results that confirm Croatia’s status as one of the most desirable European destinations.
As stated in the official announcement of the Croatian National Tourist Board, according to the latest data from the eVisitor system, which includes traffic in the commercial and non-commercial segments as well as nautical chartering, during 2025 more than 21.8 million arrivals and a record 110.1 million overnight stays were achieved. These figures represent an increase of two percent in arrivals and one percent in overnight stays compared to the previous year, surpassing for the first time in history the magical threshold of 110 million overnight stays.
The largest share of tourist traffic was expectedly achieved on the Adriatic with 104.6 million overnight stays, while the continental regions together with the City of Zagreb recorded 5.6 million overnight stays with growth of two percent. Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina expressed exceptional satisfaction with these indicators, emphasizing that record results were achieved in all segments, including the best pre-season and post-season ever. The Minister particularly highlighted the breakthrough in December when more than one million overnight stays were achieved, confirming the success of the year-round tourism development strategy.
Alongside quantitative growth, the past year was also crucial due to the implementation of an extensive reform of accommodation capacities. The Government and the relevant ministry emphasize that the positive effects of these changes are already visible, but warn of the challenges coming in 2026. Geopolitical instability and changes in economic trends in key source markets call for caution, with price competitiveness and service quality being crucial for maintaining current trends.
Analysis by region shows that Istria remains the leading tourist county with 30.3 million overnight stays achieved. It is followed by Split-Dalmatia County with 20.9 million and Kvarner with 18.5 million overnight stays. Among the destinations that attracted the largest number of visitors, Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Split, Poreč and Umag stand out. When it comes to the structure of guests, tourists from Germany remained the most loyal, while domestic guests and visitors from Slovenia, Austria and Poland also made a significant contribution.
The director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Staničić, said that these results serve as a strong motivation for the further branding of Croatia as a sustainable and premium destination. The emphasis in the coming period will be on strengthening cooperation with airlines and digital campaigns, with a clear focus on providing real value for money. Particularly encouraging is the data on traffic growth during the Christmas and New Year holidays of eight percent, which is the best introduction to the new business year.
The figures clearly show that Croatian tourism no longer depends exclusively on summer sun and sea. A record 110 million overnight stays is the result of systematic work on extending the season and strengthening the offer on the continent. However, the sector now faces its most important task, which is maintaining a balance between price growth and the quality of the offer so that Croatia remains competitive in a rapidly changing environment. The key to success in 2026 will be responsible resource management and uncompromising insistence on excellence.
