12/09/2025

Are you interested in how much employees at Lidl in Germany earn? As one of the world's largest discount retail chains, Lidl employs thousands of people, and it has now been publicly revealed how much sales assistants, store managers, and other employees in this retail giant actually earn.
Lidl, headquartered in Bad Wimpfen in the Heilbronn district, is part of the Schwarz Group, and there is hardly a person in Germany who has not shopped there at least once. Although customers most often see only sales assistants, cashiers, and store managers, there are many other positions in such a large company. A transparent insight into this data is provided by the Kununu platform, where employees anonymously rate their employer and state the amount of their salary, writes Govori.se. Kununu published the average gross annual salaries for various positions at Lidl. The most data was collected for the positions of sales assistants, store managers, and trainees.
Salary range from warehouse worker to regional manager
According to Kununu data, salaries differ significantly depending on the position. Trainees earn an average of around 13,900 euros gross per year, which comes to approximately 1,158 euros per month. Cashiers can expect an average gross annual salary of 31,200 euros, which amounts to around 2,600 euros per month. Warehouse workers are only slightly better paid, with an average of 31,400 euros per year, or around 2,617 euros per month.
Retail sales assistants receive an average of 33,100 euros gross per year, which is approximately 2,758 euros per month. More qualified retail workers reach an average of 34,900 euros per year, or around 2,908 euros per month. An administrative clerk can count on an average annual salary of 41,700 euros, which comes to around 3,475 euros per month.
Management positions bring significantly higher amounts. An assistant store manager earns around 42,700 euros gross per year, which is approximately 3,558 euros per month. Store managers have an average gross annual salary of 60,400 euros, which amounts to around 5,033 euros per month. Advisors, or consultants, earn an average of 68,200 euros per year, or around 5,683 euros per month. The highest average salary, according to the available data, is earned by a regional manager with 83,200 euros gross per year, which comes to around 6,933 euros per month.
Why are the salary differences extremely large?
It is important to emphasize that these are average amounts from all reported data, which means that the salary ranges are very broad. For example, store managers' salaries can range from 29,500 euros to as much as 83,700 euros gross per year. These large differences are explained by differences in collective agreements and individual employment conditions. Some employees are paid according to collective agreements, while others are not, which creates huge fluctuations in income levels.
Lidl rated better than key competitors
Employees on the Kununu platform also rate diversity, corporate culture, and the working environment in the company. In the career and salary category, Lidl has an average rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars. This rating is better than the ratings of many competing companies.
For comparison, Kaufland, which is also part of the Schwarz Group, has a rating of 3.3 stars, Rewe and Aldi Süd have 3.5 stars, Aldi Nord 3.2 stars, Penny 3.7 stars, while Netto has the lowest rating of only 2.8 stars. One of the possible reasons for Lidl's better ratings could also be the salary increase for new employees introduced in 2024.
