The Danish retail chain for furniture and home furnishings, JYSK, has confirmed its exceptionally strong position on the Croatian market, recording impressive business results in the 2024/2025 financial year, accompanied by significant investment in its employees.
According to information from the company, revenue increased by a high 13.9 percent, reaching 150,343,900 euros, while earnings before interest and taxes, the so-called EBIT, rose by 16.7 percent, to 34,752,301 euros.
These outstanding financial indicators are accompanied by increased customer trust, as JYSK welcomed 327,652 new customers in the mentioned year, representing growth of 12.3 percent.
Investing in people: The key to success and generous bonuses
At JYSK, they emphasize that the foundation of their success is continuous investment in employees, which was once again confirmed by the payment of bonuses. During the 2024/2025 financial year, employees in all Croatian stores were paid a total gross bonus amount greater than 1.13 million euros.
Nikola Šušnjar, Retail Director and Member of the Management Board of JYSK in Croatia, explains how the reward system in that company works.
'Our bonus system is not limited by any fixed amount, but directly depends on results, which means that the better the achievements, the greater the rewards. In this way, we want to create an environment in which every employee knows that their effort and contribution to shared success truly pays off and opens excellent opportunities for them,' said Šušnjar, adding that the company also regularly invests in education, career development, as well as employee wellbeing initiatives such as the 'JYSK life club' project, which supports work-life balance.
How much this approach motivates teams is best shown by the results of individual stores. Among the most successful, first place by the amount of bonus paid was taken by the store in Galerija Bakar in Kukuljanovo, where employees were paid a total gross bonus of 67,020.17 euros. This means that each employee at that location earned an average of an additional 563.19 euros per month on top of their regular salary, which is an impressive indicator of sales efficiency. In second place, Slavonski Brod traditionally confirmed its position with an achieved gross bonus of 55,124.75 euros, while third place was taken by Labin with a total of 39,707.42 euros in gross bonuses paid.
Expansion of the network and new jobs
The company is also investing intensively in expanding its retail network; the opening of the milestone 70th store in Croatia was recently marked, further strengthening the brand's presence on the domestic market. With currently 677 employees, JYSK plans further expansion and the opening of six more new locations by the end of the financial year, which will also create 40 new jobs. The continuous growth in the number of stores and employees confirms the company's commitment to the local market and to creating quality career opportunities in the retail sector.
Vesna Kukić Lončarić, JYSK Country Director for Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia, points out that these results are a direct consequence of a customer-focused strategy.
'The 2025 financial year was extraordinary for us, marked by strong growth. In a challenging environment, customers are increasingly looking for real value for their money and great offers, and I am proud that our teams in all stores managed to provide top service every day. These results confirm that customers recognize our quality and the trust we are building,' emphasized Kukić Lončarić.
Additional confirmation of the strength of the company culture is the fact that JYSK once again found itself on Forbes' list of the most desirable employers for 2025.
'Our teams are the key to our success and the foundation for all future growth,' concluded Kukić Lončarić.
Global advances and environmental responsibility
The strong growth of the Croatian market is part of JYSK's broader global success, as in the past year it achieved historic advances by opening its first stores on two new continents, in Morocco in Africa, and in Uruguay in South America through a local partner. Globally, JYSK opened 148 new stores and entered the financial year with a total of 3,575 stores in 50 countries.
Alongside financial growth, JYSK is also committed to meeting environmental targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from scopes 1 and 2 by 50.4 percent by the end of the 2032 financial year. Despite opening new stores, the company managed to reduce total scope 1 and 2 emissions by 1.2 percent compared to the 2022 financial year, which translates into 9 percent fewer emissions per store. At the same time, in scope 3, which refers to supply chains, a reduction in emissions per sold ton of products of 16.5 percent was achieved compared to 2022.
JYSK, therefore, is entering the upcoming period with a clear 'Customers’ First Choice' strategy for the 2025-2028 period, focused on further modernization of stores, employee development, and improving the customer experience, while remaining faithful to its core values: merchant, colleague, and team spirit, and all the above information was obtained from JYSK's sources.
