As Many as 27% of Croatians Oppose Foreign Workers: Up 6% from Last Year

Research Nulti kvadrant records an increase of 6%, while young people and women are the most opposed to the import of labor.

Croatian citizens' attitudes toward foreign workers have changed significantly over the past year, according to the latest research by the agency Nulti kvadrant.

According to the results, 26.9% of Croats expressed direct opposition to the import of foreign labor. This figure represents an increase of 6 percentage points compared to the results of the same research conducted a year earlier, when that share amounted to 21.2%.

Analysis of demographic indicators revealed clear patterns in the structure of opposition. The research showed that the most pronounced groups opposing the arrival of foreign workers are young people, especially pupils and students, among whom the greatest caution or fear of potential competition was observed, while women also show significant resistance, at a somewhat higher percentage compared to men.

Contrary to the trend among young people, pensioners are the group that shows the lowest level of opposition to the import of labor.

The Nulti kvadrant research found that 48% of Croats perceive foreign workers as a potential threat to Croatian culture and the traditional way of life.
