Average Net Salary in Bosnia and Herzegovina Rises 9.5% Year-on-Year to 859 Euros

According to data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the average net salary in March 2026 reached 1,680 convertible marks, which corresponds to about 859 euros at the fixed exchange rate.

The average monthly net salary of employees in legal entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina in March 2026 amounted to 1,680 convertible marks. The convertible mark is pegged to the euro at a fixed exchange rate, so that amount corresponds to approximately 859 euros. Compared with the previous month, nominal growth amounted to 2.2%, while real growth, which takes inflation into account, was a more modest 0.5%.

Annual growth exceeded 9%

Looking at the annual level, the average salary is nominally 9.5% higher compared with March 2025, when it amounted to 1,534 convertible marks, then about 784 euros. Real growth in the same period reached 4.2%, which means that salaries grew faster than inflation. For the first three months of 2026, cumulative nominal growth compared with the same period of the previous year amounts to 9.2%.

Finance and IT at the top, hospitality at the bottom

Differences in income between sectors remain significant. Financial activities and insurance record the highest average net salary of 2,303 convertible marks, which corresponds to about 1,178 euros. Immediately behind are information and communication activities with an average of 2,278 convertible marks, or about 1,165 euros.

At the other end of the table are accommodation and food service activities with an average net salary of 1,169 convertible marks, approximately 598 euros, and construction with 1,306 convertible marks, about 668 euros.

Croatia paid almost twice as much in the same month

A comparison with the Republic of Croatia clearly shows the economic gap between the two neighboring countries. The average net salary in Croatia in March 2026 amounted to 1,555 euros, which is 81% higher than the average salary in BiH. Croatia's median net salary in the same month amounted to 1,317 euros, and even that amount exceeds the Bosnia and Herzegovina average by more than 53%.
