City of Samobor Shows Care: Christmas Bonuses of €45 to €85 for the Most Vulnerable
11/06/2025

The City of Samobor has once again this year secured funds for the payment of Christmas bonuses to pensioners, persons with disabilities, unemployed Croatian veterans from the Homeland War, and beneficiaries of the national allowance for elderly persons who have residence in the city area, while receiving pensions and other income of up to 400 euros.
According to available information on the official website of the City of Samobor, this is a measure that continues the policy of caring for citizens of lower financial status, with the aim of improving their standard of living during the holiday period, when household expenses are usually increased.
A total of 879 people became entitled to the Christmas bonus, having submitted the required documentation on time during the period from 6 October to 27 October 2025, and around 55 thousand euros have been secured in the budget for this purpose. The payment of the one-time allowance will be carried out through the Fina branch office in Samobor on Ljudevit Gaj Street, in the period from 3 November to 6 December 2025.
The amounts of the allowance differ according to income level, so those with income up to 250 euros will receive 85 euros, beneficiaries whose income amounts to from 250.01 to 325 euros will be paid 60 euros, while persons with income between 325.01 and 400 euros will receive 45 euros. When coming to collect the payment, it is necessary to present an identity card and OIB, and in exceptional situations the allowance may also be collected by another person upon presentation of the appropriate documents.
Such measures by local self-government units often have an important social and emotional role, because pensioners and persons with lower incomes often face the holiday period with a limited budget, while the additional allowance can help cover basic expenses or small personal pleasures. Economists point out that Christmas bonuses, although symbolic in amount, have a visible positive effect on local consumption, since the largest part of the funds is immediately returned to the economy through the purchase of food and gifts within the city area.
Social experts emphasize that such measures contribute to strengthening the sense of belonging to the community, because beneficiaries receive confirmation that their city takes care of their needs, which is especially important for the elderly and single people who are often exposed to the risk of social isolation. At the same time, administrative rules and a defined payment deadline make it possible for the system to remain organized, efficient, and financially sustainable, which is crucial for planning the local self-government budget.
The City of Samobor calls on all those who meet the conditions to respect the set deadlines, because after 6 December the right to collect the Christmas bonus ceases to be valid. Additional information can be obtained from the Administrative Department for Social Activities, where citizens are also provided with additional administrative assistance as needed.
