Cold Cuts Counter Fix: How One Store Tackled the Worker Shortage

I was struck by the fact that in the past 10 years, more than 220 thousand citizens of Croatia have gone to Germany alone, so that there are now almost half a million of them in that EU member state alone, Kovačić commented
Many entrepreneurs across Croatia are currently facing the problem of a lack of employees, and some have found new ways to cope with the large volume of work. Namely, the editor-in-chief of the Croatian Catholic Network, Siniša Kovačić, published on his Facebook profile a case from a store that decided to “close” salami slicing services in the afternoon hours.
“Dear customers, from 6 to 9 p.m., due to a shortage of workers in the afternoon hours, we do not provide slicing services on the salami slicer. Thank you,” the message to customers in the department reads,
“Reality. Workers are lacking, but employers do not want to pay them fairly, close stores on Sundays, and allow female workers (because mostly women work in stores) to be with their families, go to Mass, have lunch with loved ones, go on a trip… and that is why our workforce is leaving. Because they are not only underpaid, but also overburdened. I was struck by the fact that in the past 10 years, more than 220 thousand citizens of Croatia have gone to Germany alone, so that there are now almost half a million of them in that EU member state alone. Sad,” Kovačić commented, and other Facebook users agreed with him.
