11/01/2022

EU Council and European Parliament negotiators reached an agreement last night on a law that provides for the end of sales of new vehicles with internal combustion engines from 2035.
“This agreement paves the way for a modern and competitive automotive industry in the European Union. The world is changing and we must remain leaders in innovation,” said Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Sikela.
The Czech presidency negotiated on behalf of the 27 member states with representatives of the European Parliament.
The agreement is part of the “Fit for 55” package
An agreement was reached to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from new cars by 55 percent by 2030, and by 50 percent for vans compared to the 2021 level, and zero emissions must be achieved by 2035 for both new cars and vans.
This agreement is part of the “Fit for 55” package, in which the EU set the goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030.
