German Giant Needs 25,000 New Workers: Language No Longer Required

The national railway company Deutsche Bahn is desperately seeking new workers this year. For this reason, they announced that they are looking for as many as 25 thousand new employees.

Around nine thousand of them will be assigned to positions that are new and only now being introduced, German media report.

According to the director of this company, the goal is to improve the quality of operations, double the number of passengers, and carry out a general overhaul of the partially worn-out infrastructure.

The announced hiring of workers is a real challenge given the shortage of qualified workers in Germany that has been discussed. According to the director, “the labor market has become tighter and more competitive”.

In 2023, they want to hire the following profiles: 5,500 trainees and students, 4,200 rail and railway vehicle maintenance experts, 3,000 workers for construction projects and construction site supervision, 2,100 train drivers, 1,600 dispatchers, 2,200 employees in train services, and 2,000 IT experts.

Various benefits are offered to DB employees. From spring, they are offering travel benefits for the unmarried partners of their employees.

English is becoming the official working language

Deutsche Bahn opened around 5,000 new jobs in 2022. Given the labor shortage in Germany, the company will try to bring in workers from abroad.

The German language, which had hindered many foreign workers in getting employed, seems it will not be necessary for certain jobs.

“In the future, more and more qualified workers will be brought in from abroad, for example from southern Europe, many Balkan countries, and Turkey.

“In any case, English is on the rise as a working language, especially in the IT sector,” the director of Deutsche Bahn told German media.
