Germany Records Highest Employment Since 1990

BERLIN – Germany last year recorded the highest annual average number of employed people since the reunification of the two Germanys in 1990. The average number of employed people amounted to 45.9 million, according to data from the German statistical office summarized by the German news agency dpa.
Employment increased by 0.7 percent compared with 2022, the year in which the previous record was recorded. After the decline in 2020 marked by the covid-19 pandemic, the number of employed people has been rising for the third year in a row.
Last year, nine out of ten additional jobs were created in the service sector. In manufacturing industry, growth of 0.3 percent was recorded, while the number of jobs in construction increased by 0.6 percent. In agriculture, forestry and fishing, the negative trend from previous years continued.
