The Government will discuss in October how much the minimum wage in Croatia will amount to during 2027.

Before making a decision, it will hold talks with employers and trade unions, reported by net.hr.

The minimum wage currently amounts to 1,050 euros gross, which is about 800 euros net, depending on tax relief and the worker’s personal circumstances. Whether and by how much that amount will increase from the beginning of 2027 is not yet known.

The final decision will be made after the October consultations. The Government also announced the possibility of temporary compensatory measures through which the state would help employers in sectors with a larger number of workers on the minimum wage.

A minimum wage of 1,250 euros is the target for 2028

According to the Government Programme for the period from 2024 to 2028, the gross minimum wage should reach 1,250 euros by the end of the mandate.

This does not mean that the minimum wage will already amount to 1,250 euros from 2027. It is a target for the end of the mandate period in 2028, while the amount for the following year will only be known in October.

According to the current calculation rules, 1,250 euros gross would amount to approximately 911 euros net for a person residing in Zagreb, without children and additional tax relief. This is only an approximate calculation according to the current tax rules. The actual net amount depends on the place of residence and personal allowances, and tax rates may also change by 2028.

The target is an average salary of 1,600 euros

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated that he expects the set target to be achieved by the end of the mandate.

'Our ambition is for the average salary to be 1,600 euros at the end of the third mandate. We are already above 1,550 euros now, we are moving toward that goal and it will be achieved without a doubt, which means that we are planning rationally,' said Plenković.
