Madrid Named Best European City for Healthy Living, Zagreb and Ljubljana Among Leaders

Madrid has been named the best European city for healthy living according to new research by the travel platform Omio.

The platform analyzed seventeen criteria related to quality of life, availability of recreational facilities, environmental conditions, and attractiveness for visitors and residents.

The Spanish capital achieved an overall score of 78.62 out of a maximum of one hundred points, setting it apart as a leading destination for a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

The analysis covered various indicators, including the number and availability of gyms and wellness centers, air quality, noise levels, walkability, and the average number of sunny hours. Madrid performed exceptionally well in almost all categories, particularly thanks to as many as 360 spa centers, the wide availability of green spaces, and the impressive figure of 2,712 sunny hours per year, which places it among the sunniest European metropolises.

In second place is Lisbon with an overall score of 75.36, and the Portuguese capital is additionally investing in the creation of new quiet zones and free access to certain botanical and city gardens. Third place went to Vienna, the long-standing European champion when it comes to quality of life, while Prague and Amsterdam rounded out the top five cities in this research.

Particular attention is also drawn to the ranking of the Croatian capital. Zagreb found itself among the top ten cities, shoulder to shoulder with Rome and Budapest, and ahead of Ljubljana, which occupies twelfth place. Alongside them, the list also includes Helsinki, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Bern, Berlin, Luxembourg, Riga, Sofia, Vilnius, Athens, Stockholm, Yerevan, and Reykjavik.

According to Omio's research, these cities currently offer the best conditions for the health and general well-being of their residents and guests, combining a pleasant climate, infrastructure suitable for an active life, and care for the environment.
