Want to Escape Everyday Stress? Shepherd Wanted to Tend Livestock in the Mountains With No Internet Access

Is the fast-paced lifestyle becoming increasingly difficult for you, the city rush from one obligation to another, crowds, stress caused by unrealistic deadlines and demanding bosses!?

Sometimes there comes a moment when you would give anything to turn off your phone and temporarily disappear off the radar.

It is precisely on the pages of the Croatian Employment Service that a job posting has been published that seems as if it was written for such moments.

One shepherd or shepherdess is being sought for work in Donji Lapac, a municipality located in the eastern part of Lika, in Lika-Senj County. The settlement lies in the Lapac field at the foot of Mount Plješevica, relatively close to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is no larger city in the immediate vicinity, it is about a 50-minute drive to Plitvice Lakes, while Bihać is the nearest urban center, about 40 minutes away.

The job includes tending livestock, but the posting does not specify what type of livestock it is, large livestock such as cows and oxen or small livestock such as sheep and goats.

The work takes place in nature, on the mountain, in the fresh air, far from city crowds, and stress is reduced to a minimum. However, there is one condition that may be both an advantage and a disadvantage for potential candidates, the location has no mobile signal or internet access, which means complete separation from the modern way of life.

Working hours are limited to the morning shift, and the employer provides single accommodation.

The offered salary amounts to 1,050 euros gross, which for a person without children, dependent family members, and disability amounts to about 807 euros net.

As for the application, it is not entirely usual either. Since the employer has no access to the mobile network, contacting by phone is not possible. Candidates should apply in person at Plitvička 81 in Donji Lapac, on working days between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

This is a temporary job with a fixed-term contract, and applications are being accepted from May 28, 2026.
