11/12/2025

The City of Zagreb is recording a continuation of the wage growth trend, as confirmed by the official statement of the City Office for Economy, Environmental Sustainability and Strategic Planning. It published data on the average monthly net and gross wages paid to employees in legal entities for August 2025. These figures serve as an important indicator of economic strength and living standards in the capital.
Average earnings continue to rise
The average monthly net wage paid per employee in Zagreb legal entities amounted to 1,626 euros in August 2025. This represents a slight increase of 0.2 percent compared to the previous month, July 2025. More importantly, compared to August 2024, wages increased by a significant 7.5 percent.
A similar trend is also recorded in gross wages. The average monthly gross wage reached 2,323 euros. Like the net wage, gross earnings also increased by 0.2 percent compared to July 2025 and by an impressive 7.5 percent compared to August 2024..
When we talk about average hourly wages, the average net hourly wage in August 2025 amounted to 9.52 euros, while the average gross hourly wage was 13.60 euros.
A deeper insight: Median wage and differences by activity
Although the average is a good indicator, the median wage provides a more precise picture, because it divides employees exactly in half. This means that 50 percent of employees receive a wage equal to or lower than that amount, and 50 percent equal to or higher.
The median net wage in August 2025 amounted to 1,400 euros, and the median gross wage 1,972 euros. These median values are lower than the averages, indicating that the average is pulled up by exceptionally high wages in certain sectors.
The largest differences in earnings are visible precisely through analysis by activity. The highest net wage, in the amount of 2,394 euros, was recorded in the activity Extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas. The same activity also leads in gross wage, where the average amounted to as much as 3,589 euros.
At the bottom of the ranking, with the lowest average, is the activity Manufacture of leather and related products. The average net wage there amounted to 953 euros. The average gross wage in that activity was 1,245 euros.
