ZET Urgently Seeks 100 Candidates: First Time Covering Retraining Costs for New Bus Drivers
03/12/2026

Zagreb Electric Tram is facing a major labor shortage and is looking for new employees.
In order to attract as many interested candidates as possible, the company has decided on a move rarely seen so far in the domestic labor market and is for the first time fully covering retraining costs. As reported by HRT, this unique opportunity was designed to make entry into the profession easier for those for whom training expenses had so far represented an insurmountable obstacle.
Comprehensive funding and a secure job
The public transport operator has announced a vacancy seeking exactly 100 employees for the position of bus driver.
The biggest advantage of this call is the fact that the employer fully finances the acquisition of all necessary qualifications. Specifically, this includes retraining for a motor vehicle driver with obtaining the KOD 95 standard, as well as complete training and taking the driving test for category D.
All selected candidates are offered the signing of an employment contract for an indefinite period, with a mandatory probation period lasting 6 months. According to the terms of the vacancy, selected candidates sign an agreement committing them to complete the training within the specified deadline, and after establishing employment they are obliged to remain with the company for at least 5 years. The deadline for submitting applications is 15 days from the moment the call is published, and candidates must submit a completed form, application letter, CV, and other required copies of documents.
What are the application requirements and what is offered to employees?
Potential drivers are not required to have any previous work experience at all, which opens the door wide to anyone considering a complete career change. The basic requirements candidates must meet include being at least 24 years old, having completed secondary vocational education, and holding a valid category B or C driving license. In addition, appropriate medical fitness for safely operating large vehicles in traffic is also necessary.
In return, the employer offers exceptionally stimulating and regular earnings, with the average driver's salary at the beginning of the year amounting to as much as 1,954 euros including non-taxable allowances. In addition to the basic salary, workers are provided with credited service time and numerous other benefits such as vacation allowance, Christmas bonus, Easter bonus, child gift, and long-service awards. The financial picture is further improved by paid supplements for work on holidays, weekends, shift work, as well as night and overtime work.
An opportunity that changes the picture of public transport
The shortage of qualified workers is a global problem that has strongly affected the public transport sector in recent years as well, but proactive measures such as fully financing education are proving to be an outstanding solution. By investing in human resources and taking on the financial burden of professional retraining, the public transport operator is not only solving its own staffing problems, but also actively contributing to reducing unemployment and improving the standard of living of its employees. It is expected that this new generation of male and female drivers, who after several months of training should take to the city streets as early as this autumn, will significantly improve line regularity and provide citizens with more reliable and safer transport. This move represents an excellent example of how adapting conditions in the labor market can achieve the mutual interests of employers and workers.
