Croatian Post Offers Residents a Chance to Earn Extra Income: Neighbors as Mail Carriers?
09/24/2025

Residents of a building in Zagreb were surprised when they spotted a Croatian Post poster with an unusual offer next to their mailboxes.
According to the poster, each resident can earn extra money by collecting mail and delivering it to their neighbors, without needing to leave their own building, writes Zagreb.info.
One of the residents photographed the poster and shared it on Croatian Reddit. The photo soon triggered a flood of comments. Alongside it, he briefly wrote: “Now mail is no longer delivered only by the postman, but also by the residents. Soon we’ll be delivering registered letters and fines to ourselves too.”

Reddit users’ reactions
The post quickly became one of the more discussed topics. Users joked about the new idea and openly expressed concern about privacy and delivery reliability. “Ideal for grannies who stick their noses where they don’t belong,” one comment said. Someone else remarked: “Great for stalkers, idle neighbors who love poking their noses into other people’s business, and kleptomaniacs.”
On the other hand, there were also more serious questions. One user asked how such a system could even work. “It only seems sensible to me for large buildings, for example those with more than a hundred apartments.” Another replied in an ironic tone, alluding to postmen from abroad who bring only the main bundle of mail to one apartment, after which the resident is obliged to distribute it further.
Users’ experiences with delivery
Some comments also recalled previous complaints about Croatian Post’s practices. “Even now they sometimes leave us a bundle of letters on top of all the mailboxes, so you sort through them yourself. Or they stick a note for a registered letter on the entrance door, then the wind blows it away, the rain soaks it, and anyone can take it. Privacy and reliability, zero points,” one user wrote.
Another mentioned that his “new postman” used to shove the bill into the hedge instead of the mailbox, while a third suspected that the post office would soon be buried in lawsuits if it introduced such a practice for delivering registered shipments as well.
Humor at the expense of the new idea
As often happens on Reddit, the discussion also turned into a series of witty comments. One user wrote a humorous string of “ads” parodying the Croatian Post advertisement: “Do you have free time and know how to use a blood pressure monitor and an oximeter? Become the neighborhood nurse. Do you know what phase and neutral are? Replace the meter for yourself and your neighbor. Do you have a half-empty apartment and are you good with children? Open a mini-kindergarten. Do you like getting up early? Clean your street and every third waste collection will be free.”
The post showed how much citizens’ trust in delivery services has been shaken, but also how ready they are to respond with humor to unusual solutions.
