After Commerzbank in Germany eliminated more jobs in recent years, this group now needs 20 thousand new workers. It offers up to 3,000 euros for employment.

After years of restructuring, including the elimination of thousands of jobs, Commerzbank in Germany is now hiring new workers in large numbers.

By 2034, the bank will likely need just under 20 thousand new workers, the human resources director told German media.

“It will be very difficult to find enough staff in the current labor market,” said the manager who has been working at Commerzbank since January 2023, reports tportal.

Bonus of 1,500 euros

In Eastern Europe, banks are now paying bonuses for new workers ranging between 1,000 and 3,000 euros. In Germany, the bonus for each new worker amounts to 1,500 euros.

“In the next ten years, many ‘baby boomers’ working in our bank will retire. Added to that is natural fluctuation, which will increase,” said the human resources director.

“In order not to reduce operations, every year we must hire around two thousand new employees – approximately half of them in Germany, and the other half at locations abroad such as Lodz, Prague, Sofia and Kuala Lumpur. That is the only way we can maintain the planned number of full-time jobs, which remains constant at around 36 thousand across the entire group.”

They are urgently looking for workers

Since the takeover of the struggling Dresdner Bank in the midst of the 2008 financial crisis, Commerzbank has been primarily focused on cost-cutting measures and staff layoffs.

Shortly after joining Commerzbank, Chief Executive Officer Manfred Knof, who has been in office since the beginning of 2021, announced a reduction of 10 thousand permanent jobs worldwide.

“The past 15 years have been characterized by workforce reduction programs. Since the takeover of Dresdner Bank in 2008, one restructuring followed another,” said the director.

“Now we are moving in a completely different direction. We must attract a lot of people who are on the labor market – and at great speed,” she added.
