Government Launches Major Hiring Wave: Urgently Seeking Customs Officers, Clerks and Advisors as Deadline Nears
12/15/2025

In the closing stages of 2025, the Croatian state administration launched a major recruitment offensive, opening a large number of jobs across the country.
This is one of the biggest hiring waves in recent times, through which ministries, courts, agencies, and state offices are seeking to fill key positions before the start of the new budget year. The central state employment portal is recording increased activity, and almost all published vacancies share a common feature, a short application deadline expiring as early as 27 December. Such dynamics put candidates in a race against time and require a quick response and the collection of the necessary documentation in the midst of the pre-holiday period.
An analysis of the open vacancies shows that this is not just about filling administrative positions in Zagreb, but about seeking operational staff who form the backbone of the state apparatus in the field. The greatest demand prevails in the financial supervision and security sector, where the Customs Administration is seeking dozens of new employees. Open positions include third-class customs officers, shift supervisors and official boats, as well as investigators in mobile units. The range of locations is exceptionally wide and includes border crossings, airports, and maritime branch offices. Stable state employment is offered in Pula, Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik, but also in inland centres such as Vukovar, Varaždin, Sisak, and smaller places along the border.
At the same time, the judicial system is seeking administrative support without which the regular functioning of courts is almost impossible. Almost all larger municipal and county courts as well as state attorney's offices are hiring court record clerks, registry clerks, and judicial advisors. Particularly notable is the increased need for new employees in the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK), which is strengthening its teams in Zagreb, Osijek, and Split. These vacancies are especially attractive to candidates with secondary education because they offer a secure entry into the state system and stable income. In addition to administrative positions, technical jobs are also opening for clerks, caretakers, cooks, and vocational teachers in penitentiaries from Zagreb and Bjelovar to Gospić.
For highly educated professionals, the end of the year brings an opportunity for a career breakthrough in ministries that manage strategic resources and European funds. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets have announced vacancies for senior advisors, inspectors, and EU funds experts. These are positions that require a high level of expertise in law, economics, or agronomy and involve work on complex projects of international financing and green transition. The Personal Data Protection Agency is also hiring, seeking experts in data supervision and processing, further confirming the growing importance of compliance with European regulation and digital standards.
A special feature of this hiring wave is also the fact that new jobs are being opened by institutions that rarely reach the public eye. The State Hydrometeorological Institute is seeking technicians and observers in locations such as Hvar, Čabar, and Dragalić, while the State Geodetic Administration is hiring clerks in Glina, Duga Resa, and Slavonski Brod. This range, from meteorology to geodesy, confirms the state's effort to strengthen professional services outside major urban centres as well and to open employment opportunities in local communities.
All interested candidates should keep in mind that the application process is fully digitalized. Applications are submitted exclusively via the selekcija.gov.hr portal, which displays all active vacancies in one place. Since the deadline for most positions is set immediately after Christmas, submitting an application without delay is recommended. It is important to carefully study the conditions of each individual position because even the smallest administrative error in the automated system can lead to the exclusion of candidates, regardless of their qualifications.
