These Are the Highest-Paying Jobs in Croatia: Tourism and Hospitality Just Above 5,000 Kuna

The average salary in the manufacturing industry, in which 15,634 entrepreneurs operated last year with 236,151 employees, amounted to 6,525 kuna.

The highest average monthly net salary last year was calculated for employees in the information and communication activities sector in the amount of 9,584 kuna, which is 50.9 percent higher than the average salary of employees at the level of all entrepreneurs in Croatia, according to an analysis by the Financial Agency (Fina).

In 2021, for 964,742 employees (according to hours worked) at 144,259 entrepreneurs, corporate income tax payers (excluding financial institutions), who under the Accounting Act are required to prepare annual financial statements (GFI), an average monthly net salary of 6,350 kuna was calculated, which is an increase of 6.1 percent compared to the previous year, when it amounted to 5,985 kuna.

Fina's analysis of average monthly net calculated salaries by activity sectors showed that last year entrepreneurs in three activities – manufacturing industry, trade and construction – had 55.5 percent of total employees, with employees in construction and trade receiving average monthly net salaries for their work that are lower than the average of Croatian entrepreneurs.

The average salary in the manufacturing industry, in which 15,634 entrepreneurs operated last year with 236,151 employees, amounted to 6,525 kuna.

In trade, which employed 190,955 workers at 28,507 entrepreneurs, the average monthly net salary amounted to 6,230 kuna, while the average net salary in construction was 5,597 kuna.

In the manufacturing industry last year, compared to the year before, salary growth of 7.3 percent was achieved, in wholesale and retail trade 6.8 percent, while salaries in construction increased by 4.2 percent.

Fina's analysis shows that in 2021 the highest salaries were earned by employees in the information and communication activities sector, 9,584 kuna, which is 8.3 percent more compared to the average salary in that activity in 2020, and 50.9 percent more than the average salary of employees at the level of all entrepreneurs in Croatia. Last year, 43,999 workers were employed in the information and communication activities sector at 7,666 entrepreneurs.

By average salary level, with 8,679 kuna, which is 36.7 percent more than the Croatian average, and 4.7 percent more than in 2020, this is followed by the activity of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, which in 2020 had 914 entrepreneurs and 14,179 employees.

In mining and quarrying last year, an average monthly net salary of 8,087 kuna was calculated, which is 1.6 percent less than the average a year earlier, and 27.4 percent more compared to the average salary at the level of all entrepreneurs in Croatia in 2021. In mining and quarrying last year, 224 entrepreneurs operated, employing 3,468 workers.

There are also financial and insurance activities, excluding banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions, with 537 entrepreneurs, 5,482 workers and an average salary of 7,960 kuna, which increased by 4.4 percent on an annual level.

The activities with the lowest calculated net salaries in 2021 are education, with 1,698 entrepreneurs, 7,563 employees and an average of 4,994 kuna, other service activities in which 11,430 workers at 4,624 employers worked for an average net salary of 4,995 kuna, and administrative and support service activities in which an average salary of 5,050 kuna was paid.

In tourism and hospitality last year, 71,175 workers were employed at 13,311 entrepreneurs, and they were calculated an average monthly net salary of 5,109 kuna.
