McDonald’s Exits Bosnia and Herzegovina Amid Financial Troubles

According to unofficial information, McDonald’s headquarters has made the decision to revoke the operating license in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the emergence of financial problems with debts for the rent of the premises where their branches were located.

McDonald’s is a well-known fast food chain present in more than 100 countries around the world. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, this brand first began operating in 2010, when the first restaurant was opened in Sarajevo. This was followed by the opening of several more branches across the country, including in Mostar, where the first restaurant was opened in 2012 in the Mepas Mall shopping center.

McDonald’s was popular in Bosnia and Herzegovina among fast food lovers, and now financial problems have allegedly emerged with debts for the rent of the premises where the branches were located, which led to the decision of the parent company to revoke the operating license in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Mostar branches are, according to reports, still operating, but they are expected to be closed soon.

Despite this unwanted event, there is hope that McDonald’s will manage to return to the Bosnia and Herzegovina market if the stated financial problems can be resolved and new operating terms agreed upon.

Until then, lovers of this fast food brand will have to find other ways to satisfy their cravings for fast food. The residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina have many other options when they feel like eating ‘junk food‘, and Bosnia and Herzegovina is known for its ćevapi with onions, which are one of the most sought-after dishes in the country. Ćevapi are usually prepared from minced meat and served in flatbread with onions and ajvar. This local specialty is available in every city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so we hope that fast food lovers will be able to find temporary comfort in it.
