Migrant Worker on Life in Germany: Anyone Who Comes Here Alone to Live and Work Will Have a Hard Time
02/26/2023

Pressed by economic hardships, many people from this region leave to work abroad, often to Germany as well. One of them, Mr. Jakupović, a Bosnian from Stuttgart, shared his experience in an interview for the show “Tuđoj avliji” by Osman Džiho.
“Not everything is fairy-tale-like and wonderful as it may seem to some. If both husband and wife work and have solid monthly income, one can somehow survive here. Everything is expensive, monthly expenses are high. Whoever comes here alone to live and work will not have it easy at all. That there is a labor shortage everywhere is true because Germans do not want to do many jobs and that is why they need people from the Balkans. It is very nice here, without a doubt. However, it is far from the Germany that once existed,” said Jakupović for the show “Tuđoj avliji”, reports Buka.
He also shared other details of life in Germany.
“Starting salaries are not high when you first find a job. In Germany today, pensioners live with difficulty, which is why they often decide to spend their retirement days in another country. Everyone comes here with some hope for a better life, and it is better, but everyone works from morning till night. There are a lot of people who come, stay for a period, and in the end still decide to return home. It is not easy to adapt, it is a process. For many, expectations are not fulfilled. I advise young people to stay where they are and find a decently paid job. Believe me, today a good worker can earn the same in BiH as in Germany, while the cost of living is much cheaper. A family of three in Germany can hardly survive a month without an income of 3,000 euros, said Jakupović for the show “Tuđoj avliji”, reports Buka.
